Introduction to Breathwork

Without a strong connection to our authentic selves, our wholeness is fractured by life experiences, lifestyles and trauma. Often thinking of life as happening to us; we paint ourselves as victims suffering in our pain. Identifying as a victim however only serves to increase pain and suffering, deepening the hurt by framing it as happening to us we render ourselves powerless. By utilising the power of the breath, a practice that has been used since ancient times, we can begin to live life intentionally, become consciously aware of our feelings and pain, and ultimately take ownership of our lives' course. In doing so we become empowered.

"Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts. Whenever your mind becomes scattered, use your breath as the means to take hold of your mind again." - Thich Nhat Hanh

Breathwork practices increases the awareness of the mind body connection using breath as a tool. The breathing practice empowers people to move away from the victim mentality and towards a place of enlightenment, self-compassion and reflective insight. Access to the pain harboured deep in the unconscious psyche can begin to be released via the breathing practice with guidance from a qualified practitioner, who is trained to hold the safe space for releasing pain, suffering and trauma that has been stored in the body. Through nurturing and kindness the practitioner can support you to access healing via the power of breathe with great care, without judgement and without harm, empowering you to attend to your held emotions and trauma release with the love and compassion that is needed.

Modern life is fast paced and getting faster. Technological advances increase our productivity, connectivity and distractibility to the point of living life in autopilot, entirely disconnected from our true selves enabled by endless distractions. As the pace of life increases the rifts deepen between our mind-body connection as we endeavour to live a life wherein, we have it all: the job, the assets, the picture-perfect family and friends. In the search for endless connectedness and expectations of ourselves something must give; we cannot have it all. We were never designed to live this way.

Sleep deprived, overworked, and malnourished through under and over consumption of food, clothes, and the latest technology our relationships with our authentic selves are depleted. Many people self-medicate by overworking, overexercising, drinking too much alcohol and turning to recreational drugs to numb their consciousness to our existence, or to try and keep up with punishing and exhausting lifestyles. With increased life dissatisfaction, loneliness, and isolation the opportunities to forming meaningful connections with others, it is no wonder so many of us find ourselves lost and so the self-perpetuating cycle of self-medication leads to discontent, disconnection as dissatisfaction with life continues.

As a result, the weight upon your shoulders can begin to lift, the deeper connection developed with your inner self can help create more meaningful connections with yourself, others, and lead to a more satisfied, connected and content experience of life. In doing so you gain the power to live every day with intention.
